ABOUT
I'm Tobias Nielsen,b. 1999 a Danish photojournalist based in Aarhus, Denmark. My work revolves around telling the authentic, often overlooked stories of people, particularly around social justice, identity, and environmental issues. I’ve had the opportunity to document a wide range of stories, from protests and demonstrations to intimate, personal moments, and I approach each one with a deep sense of responsibility.
In my work, I make it a priority to communicate stories honestly and authentically, without digital manipulation or artificial intelligence. I’m committed to maintaining the integrity of documentary photography by portraying the world as it truly is. I believe in the ethical responsibility to represent people and situations respectfully, ensuring that my work doesn’t exploit or harm those I document. This ethical responsibility extends beyond just the photos themselves, it means being conscious of my own biases and how media representations can influence perceptions. I work closely with my subjects, taking care to assess each situation carefully, and maintaining respect for the individuals and communities I engage with.
Over the years, I’ve found my place not only as a photographer but as someone who learns from the diverse cultures I encounter. From covering protests to intimate moments in private homes, I’ve learned to approach each situation with empathy and respect. By speaking with locals and carefully observing, I challenge myself to understand the deeper context and find the most honest way to portray what I see.
I approach every project with curiosity and an open, observant eye, always challenging myself to learn and grow as both a photographer and as a person.
As a photographer, my goal is to contribute to an informed public by authentically capturing the human experience in all its complexity. I strive to give voice to those often unheard and to deepen understanding of the issues we face. Whether through long-term projects or commissioned work, I aim to reflect the true nature of the stories I tell with honesty, nuance, and strong ethical principles.
