The Country Roads is Daniel's guide
The interest in cycling truly began at the age of 11, when Daniel Brockhoff, now 18 years old, received a contribution from his grandparents towards a racing bike. This pushed aside other leisure activities such as badminton and swimming. Instead, the road bike became the main focus and has remained so ever since.

At the age of 13, Daniel moved to the school in Rosenhøj, where he had the opportunity to become part of ESAA – the Elite Sports Academy Aarhus. When he turned 15, he thinks he became seriously good, and his progress has only continued since. In the previous season, he placed 16th in the junior Danish Championships. He has stood on several podiums, including two first places in national and a few international races.

Daniel has moved from racing with the U19 team Team Vifra Kvickly Odder Junior in 2023 to a switch to the A-class team Team Give Elementer. This brings exciting challenges, with opponents in the upcoming summer's Danish Championships, including the sprinter Mads Pedersen.

As part of the "team" ESAA – Elite Sports Academy Aarhus, Daniel makes use of the fitness facilities a few times a week for strength training, particularly for his leg muscles.

Daniel's everyday life, aside from cycling, is filled with schooling at HTX in Aarhus C, where he studies physics and mathematics. Although it can sometimes be stressful to perform well, do homework, and prepare for lessons, he is very happy with the education and has a good grasp of centrifugal force, among many other things.

With the move to A-class cycling from the junior U19 ranks, Daniel hopes to prove his worth in the upcoming season through strong results. The ultimate goal further into the future is to have the opportunity to race in the big events, such as the Tour de France or the Tour of Flanders.

Good fitness is among the most important things one can have with them on the bike. The evenings Daniel spends in the gym are therefore dedicated to exercises such as squats, deadlifts, and leg presses. This, in itself, provides extra help and training on top of the many interval sessions he does on the bike almost every day.

Daniel's training programme primarily consists of interval training in various forms, designed to optimise his ability to perform at maximum effort without experiencing lactic acid build-up in his legs. This results in three sets of intervals, each consisting of five sessions of one and a half minutes, while on this Tuesday in February, he covered 78.1 km in the southern part of Aarhus Municipality.

From the top of Jelshøj, Daniel continues his ride, heading home towards Tranbjerg and towards the 2024 season with a greater desire to improve.
